Uh, what was it I had said.

Something along the lines of

Virtually all the groups around here I've been onvolved iwth are either very casual or very uptight, and I guess I need a middle path, like buddhism or goldilocks.

Drinking and smoking weed is, well, the last group I was in might as well have been doing nothing but. If you want to get high or bring some beers that's cool, maybe bring some to share, but I'd prefer people not getting shitfaced or stupid.

For once I'd like to have a group that's there to roleplay, that isn't just there to hang out and socialize and catch a buzz.

But to be honest the idea of gaming with people I don't know, whom I've never even seen, is pretty intimidating.

Which is why I kind of like the idea of a one-shot test game, where we can take stock of each other and our personalities and how they interact. We could run it at one of the FLGSs so it would be more like we were on neutral ground.

And then you could send you descicions via email so you don't have to tell me how much you hated our game to my face. Unless you want to do that. Then I guess you could. I'm pretty thick skinned and take well to constructive criticism.

A group that doesn't suck?

Half the time, I'd be happy with just having A GROUP!

But unfortunately, I can't find even a single other player that lives closer to me than an hour's drive.

well, i seem to recall us kind of hating each other on tangency. but i could be wrong.

my big problem is that i can't drive. not "won't drive," but can't drive. sometimes i can bribe my husband and get him to take me places, more than a half hour drive and he gets cranky about it.

sigh.

Unfortunately Alka-Seltzer, I live about an hour & a half drive from you.

I'm not really sure that I could make it up there anytime soon.

But that seems to be the problem.

I know a gamer in Roanoke (redredderreddest), a few in Appomattox, there is you in Charlottesville, but none of us are close enough to make that lengthy drive or at least not very often.

Dude, that's right. You totally hate me. I forgot about that. I don't know what to do in that case.

I cannot drive. Legally.

I'm trying to learn how to ride a bike, but I'm afraid I might hurt myself. Have you ever read the calvin and hobbes with the bicycle? That's me. Ow.

Sigh.

d&d basic, advanced d&d, gurps in numerous incarnations, toon, nexus: the infinite city, rifts, werewolf, vampire, mage, streetfighter, teenage mutant ninja turtles, ninjas and superspies, heroes unlimited, insane freeform (I don't know what to call that) Planescape, Changeling, Over the Edge, Nobilis, D&d D20 3e, Buffy rpg.

I think that's all of it.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Big eyes, small Mouth, I'd almost forgotten about that. And Shadowrun, there's another. Oh, and Call of Cthulhu D20.

I also own a shitload of games I've never played, like UA and Feng Shui, and Wraith. But those don't count.

Looks like a pretty good list

I have an earlier copy of Call of Cthulhu.

I've played/GM'd a bunch of different games over the years including Star Wars (d6), several different supers systems. Most of the really long games I've played in were , D&D3E (6 months), Vampire (2 years), Shadowrun (2 years),

In the past several months, my interest has turned toward Nobilis, Transhuman Space, WitchCraft, Armageddon, Beyond Human, and Buffy. I'm considering buying Silver Age Sentinels to placate a friend in Richmond (he keeps pushing for me to buy the new Marvel Universe game, but I don't want to do it).

That's a mighty big question.

I shoulda been more specific, sorry. I meant like genre & books and movies that influence your game. My question was way too open-ended.

alka - yeah, we totally hate each other. but oh well. i hated GMS till i met him in person too, so i'm willing to hang if you are.

i'm trying really hard to get my husband into rpgs, at least somewhat. he's interested in a buffy game. i have a couple of the buffy books and i'd be into it as well. i don't know, we all live kind of far from each other. you think an occasional game might be worth it? i've never been to charlottesville but i heard it has a couple of really nice veg. friendly restaurants.

what do you think?

Do they have bus service in that part of the world? It amazes me how good the bus service is in the West Coast cities compared to what I hear about in the rest of the nation.

Charlottesville and Lynchburg both have amazingly wonderful Indian restaurants; I think they are pretty vegetarian friendly.

Personally, I'm hoping that Lynchburg gets a Thai restaurant before long. Mmm, good.

There may be others, but I'm not vegetarian myself.

The other thread is too far gone now, so I'll repost the link to the Charlottesville Roleplayers group at Yahoo:

Are you signed up, Alka?

OK I just got an email related to, I think, this thread and inviting me to join someone's game in richmond so I guess I should give people a summary of what's happening in my life, RPG wise.

1: still no car, still not much of a bike rider either. So me no go far cville away from. In fact I almost never seem to leave the downtown area atall, not mroe than once a week. So me commuting to richmond or fairfax or vancouver or where-ever is a no.

2: I'm running a game. Yay! You may have seen me mention it somewher on the Open forum, Demon Squad: New Orleans, a slightly less buffy game of Buffy. I really like it. of course one of our players turned on us and left and then another player showed up who is, well, let's just say that his great enthusiasm for showing up to the game does not match his mental contributions during play. So if you live in Cvill and you don't horribly suck and really really really want to play this, for whatever reason, then I guess we can set up a meet somewhere and put you through The Trial of Gamers.

3; I could, however, be convinced to play in another game. I like to play but always end up as GM. But you would have to sell me on it. It would have to be cool. And interesting. And obviously well done. And even then I might not join you. So don;t get your hopes up. Unless you're running Uknown Armies, Nobilis or Over the Edge in which case I will join you in a heartbeat.

So, that's the heads up.

I live on the southside of Richmond, but due to working nights (booo!) and me and my friends becoming old farts, its hard to get people togather now days to play. Sucks to be me atm!

So if any of y'all (see im southern) are anywhere near Richmond, or just know of a game looking for (semi) mature 30ish peeps, please drop me a line! Would love to get in/run a game of Exalted/Armageddon (when it finally comes out!)

Peace!
