Mongoose Publishing is expanding once again and we are in need of more full-time staff members.

We are currently looking for a full-time Senior Editor to work on our core fantasy d20 System product lines, including the Slayer’s Guides, Encyclopaedia Arcane and Quintessential series of books. Such a person will be expected to take projects from original manuscript to final printing with a large degree of autonomy. The position is Swindon-based (in the United Kingdom) and has a potential salary of £15-20,000 per annum for the right candidate.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

*Able to work fast in order to meet deadlines, while maintaining absolute accuracy.

*Over 25.

*Willing to work in Swindon, in an office.

*Intimate knowledge of the d20 System.

*A passion for games and gaming.

*Computer literate (Windows-based).

*Excellent skills in written English, time management and planning.

*Experience in a writing, editing or proofreading position would be a distinct bonus.

Past experience with publishing software and the laying out of books would be an advantage but not necessary, as full training will be given.

For some people, this could seem like the ideal job – and indeed it may well be. However, candidates are cautioned that the position requires a great deal of hard work, dedication and commitment, as you will be responsible for a sizeable part of Mongoose Publishing’s release schedule.

If, however, you believe you are just the person for this position, please drop me a line at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com, including a CV/resume and covering letter.

Wow - sounds great. Baltimore-Swindon commute can be a bitch. I'd have to pontoon my car, which might detract from the resale value. That and I'd need shark repellent.

:D

On the other hand, that would be just the sort of dedication we are looking for :)

I'd be tempted, except I'm so uninterested in d20 I can't really see the point.

Not only would I have to age a year, but my commute is worse than the other guy. I live in Florida. It does sound like my total dream job though, especially since I love the stuff Mongoose is putting out.

I'd apply, but my commute would be even worse than AC's...
Plus, I'd have to give up the dystopian nightmare and general cesspool of boredom that is being a temporary office monkey.

*sigh*

With ya till the Swindon thing...a bit of a jaunt.

That, and I'd hate to let my law degree go to waste...well maybe not.

Could you tolerate working with a Yank if he were willing to move to England? I'm serious here, I lived in Japan for 2 years, and have always wanted to visit England. The language barrier would be no harder than it was in Japan, I bet! ;)

I fit all of your criteria (I'm 30, been playing RPGs for 22 years, and D&D3e since the day it came out, Computer literate, have a BA with honors, was an English teacher for 2 years, etc), though moving to another country would take some time... How soon does the job need to be filled? Is that salary a livable wage in Swindon or not? (Not sure of the exchange rates and cost of living...)

£20K is definitely a living wage in Swindon, it would be a bit harder in London. £15K's harder but OK in the provinces.

Plus there's the bonus of being in Wiltshire which is weirdness central for the UK.

The main difficulty is getting a work permit but there are ways and I do know a Yank working in RPGs in the UK who could give some advice if you're serious.

Of course is Mongoose can't take you we always need teachers in this country and there are plenty of schools that recruit from the US and Canada (and also Holland and Sweden).

Given that the job is basically computer based I'm intrigued as to why there's a stipulation on moving to Swindon. I'm sure it could be done from anywhere.

Cheers,

Problem is I'd teach American English, so all your kids would end up sounding like they are from California! (Sends a shiver down yer spine, doesn't it? :) )

Yes, it sounds like it could be done remotely, and if communication is the issue, I regularly use voice chat programs, Instant messaging, etc. It's almost like being there...

But I enjoy seeing foreign countries, and half the fun of the job to me would be seeing England and Europe. The other half would be working in RPGs, a love of mine since I was 8. I am also a published artist, so I could provide some art for the books if needed as well.

I'm revising my resume now, I'll send it ASAP.

Do you have a closing date for choosing the editor? Will you notify everyone who submits an application? I sent my resume, but have not received any reply yet, and I was just wondering what kind of timetable I should expect...
