Amazing! After two weeks of failing to log in I made it !- so in the spirit of striking while the iron is hot I thought i'd post a new(ish) piece of work!
This will be the cover art to the forthcoming supplement"Beast!" for Darkwood RPG by Tower Games.
Cool name for a book, hope the artwork lives up to it...
You can see more samples on the Tradetalk website at:

And stay tuned for a new website all of my very own! How very exciting - we're just ironing out the glitches, so it'll be up and running within the next couple of weeks!
Please note the artwork is copyright to Tower Games, and reproduced by kind permission!
Cheers all

Damn nice work.
What's the media? Oil, maybe?...

Thanks, glad you liked it. Its actually acrylic on paper, which I then scanned and worked on in Painter - stuff like the smoke is so much easier to do on a computer. Plus you can work the piece in a number of directions without losing anything.
The only downside to this method is the lack of a finished "original" piece to hang on the wall - its all in the computer!

Jon, is that ever a nice piece of work! (it definitely belongs on a cover in my opinion) I look forward to seeing more on your website.

Thanks, Eric - its great to get such positive feedback!
It was a nice job that one - The guy who runs Tower Games is a really great bloke, and we have a good working relationship, so it was nice to be able to pull off a half decent piece for his book!
cheers,
Jon

I saw that cover art at your website, liked it then, liked it now. Absolutely great color that drives some drama into the piece. I wish I had color sense like that.

Cheers Storn! (I have to take issue with your lack of colour sense - your harmonious colours are REALLY nice!)
Bizarrely enough, the colour work in the piece stems mostly from being forced to try out new paints.
I've had to do quite a lot of colour work for Tower Games, and all of it for Darkwood (Robin Hood types, dressed in green, in a green forest). Hence I knew I was going to need some decent green paint - normally I mix everything from just three primaries and white ( its practically a religion for me). However I was struggling to get a strong enough green for repeated use. By the time I had found some that worked,(actually System 3 acrylic, which is pretty cheap!), I had done lots of experiments with green paint, and went for a much stronger combination of colours than perhaps I would have previously gone for.
I use brown paint in tubes now as well. I guess gradual, creeping maturity is bringing about some sensible compromises!
Thanks again for the kind words,
Jon
