Here's the problem: The girlfriend and I both like videogames, but find that the games we own are all singleplayer, thus not a lot of fun for the person not playing (especially as the games tend toward the Final Fantasy story oriented end of the spectrum).

So I'm looking for multiplayer games, preferably good ones, and preferably a variety so that we can choose the right ones.

The caveats are: No sports titles, at all. Even if they are "extreme" sports.

I'm not too big on the soldiers shooting each other genre, particularly the World War II games, or fighting games, but if you think of some game that is amazing I might consider it.

I know tht eliminates a lot of multiplayer games, but what else would you people suggest?

This goes in the Other Games section of the forum.

As for multiplayer games...Hmm, have you tried Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliace. Or Hunter: The Reckoning Wayward? They're mostly action games, but you can play coop.

I've also been amazed at the lack of multiplayer games for the PS2. The only two multiplayer games that I have are Tiger Woods Golf and Major League Baseball. The MLB game also can be used to simulate a team's progress over a season and across years, including trading players, making it the most complex strategy games for the PS2 that I have seen.

Smackdown (3 or 4). Sure, it's fighting, but... it's wrestling. And you can create your own wrestler.... :p

Dynasty Warriors 4. Teh r0XX0r, put simply.

Balder's Gate: DA
Gauntlet Legends:something-or-other (the PS2 version, anyway)

Of course, what you realy want are PS1 games. Like, say, Bust-a-Move, possibly Dance Dance Revolution (especialy if you can get the dance mats). Backwards compatability is one of the PS2's selling points, remember. ;)

Not sure if Gladius is out for PS2, but it's got co-op - simply hit start on another controller during the gladiator selection. Also, you unlock the vs. mode after clearing the first "land".

There is DDR max for the PS2. And with the dance pads, it rocks. As for other games, try War of the Monsters. Sure, it's a fighting game, but it's a fighting game where you play giant monsters and trash the city. Personal fave of mine.

Mkay... along the lines of ddr there is Amplitude.
Good game.
1-4 players with a multitap of course.
i recomend it highly.
Also Soulcalibur 2 and Dynasty Warriors 3 (the split screen kinda sucks but it's uber fun.)

I'll add to suggestions for Dynasty Warriors (3 or 4). It's big fun and pretty, pretty, pretty! (I have a slight preference for DW3, but that could just be a familiarty thing, since I played nothing but that for like 6 months!)

Gauntlet is also fun, if a bit silly. It's not split screen, which is a bonus, but it's not much more than a jumped up arcade game. SOmetimes that just hits the spot though....

I thought I put the thread in Other Games. I must have missed some setting somewhere in posting.

The few options mentioned don't really give me much hope for finding appropriate games, unfortunately.

I, too, am looking for appropriate games and it seems next to impossible. My husband and I like to play video games together, but kicking each other's asses gets boring after a while. We chanced upon a game called OBSCURE. It's multiplayer. There are four teenagers for you to choose from blah blah blah and it's NOT split screen. It's the only decent multiplayer rpg out there unfortunately. I don't seem to be able to find anything else at the moment and it's frustrating, but definitely pick up Obscure for hours of multiplaying fun!

Video Games go in Video Games Open, not OGO.

When the thread was started three years ago, there wasn't a Video Games specific forum.

Quite the thread necromancy.
