3) If you delete the game from the PSP or PS3 can you download it later again and not have to pay?

I'm looking for pregen characters I can give to new players in a hurry, people to point out optimal character builds so that the staff can be made aware of them if necessary, and to get a feel for how to adjust the official rules to get characters of a similar power level without having to fully rewrite it.

Twelve comics writers are commissioned to pitch "The Super Guys," a fairly generic team of superheroes, all of which should be completely new characters. The Editors say they want to use this book as a way to bring in new comics readers, so it has to be accessible, but that longtime fans should enjoy it too, and it should still be tied in to the company's existing comics mythology. Talented Artist Of Your Choice is available to provide the art. So which of the writers do you think pitches the proposal that the Editors will select?

1. Geoff Johns
2. Kurt Busiek
3. Chris Claremont
4. Erik Larsen
5. Grant Morrison
6. Brian Michael Bendis
7. Jeff Parker
8. Greg Pak
9. Robert Kirkman
10. John Byrne
11. Joe Kelly
12. Fabian Nicieza

Go! :D

I'd like to see what else is out there for "RPG-related" fiction. Let me define it a bit: I'm looking for stuff that are "inspired" by role-playing games, not actual novels based on role-playing settings per se.

So Joel Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame, where a group of fantasy roleplayers are transported physically into their characters' bodies, is in. But Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance is out.

Similarly, Kevin J. Anderson's Gamearth trilogy is also an example of what I'm looking for, which postulates a world which literally follows RPG-esque rules. I would also consider stories in which RPGs are a prominent feature role, like in John Coyne's Hobgoblin, Rona Jaffe's Mazes & Monsters, and Sharyn Mcrumb's Bimbos of the Death Sun. Oh and, of course, Jonny Nexus' Game Night.

The genre doesn't matter as long as role-playing games feature prominently in the setting or in the story.

This is my first time invoking the wisdom of Tangency. Are there more stuff for me out there?

So, I grew up on names like Hulk Hogan, Junkyard Dog, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant, and Bam Bam Bigelow. So having them on the roster (or easily creatable) is a plus.

Character creation is a must- move/combo/finisher creation a plus.

Easy (but deep) gameplay, and I'd love it if I could go 2 on 2 tag matches locally with my friends.

So, it seems that SvR would handle that... but what else is there?

Write your name and your character's name on a piece of paper. The write three words: "magic", "sneaking" and "fighting". You get a 1, 3 and a 5 to put where you want, higher is better. When you want to do something, roll two dice and add your skill level. If it's ten or better, you succeed. If less than ten, you either fail or succeed but something bad happens.

If you put a 5 in magic, write down three spells you have. If you put a 3 in magic, write down only one spell. Take one glass stone for every point you have in magic. You have to spend one each time you try to cast a spell.

Roll 1d6 each to see how many quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies you get. This is your starting money.

Draw three boxes on your paper. if they all get checked, you run away, get captured or fall unconscious.

Draw a picture of your character.

You meet with the King and he gives you a job. He may even send a friend along. He may give you a special magic item to help you along.

Pick six (or so) minis out of Dad's big box of D&D minis to be the bad guys.

Then you go to the village. There is a shop in the village where you can buy stuff with your coins.

Next, Dad draws a map and you put your figures on it. You go on an adventure. If you do the job for the king, he will give you more coins and magic gems.

Here's my daughter's character, a sneaky wizard that looks just like Princess Leia (that's the figure she picked).

Coraline the Wizard
Magic: 5, Sneaking: 3, Fighting: 1
Stuff: Magic wand (+2 Fighting), map, backpack, food, dog food
Spells: 1) Spider web (purchased for fifty pennies from the shop), 2) invisible, 3) disguise, 4) the force (basically telekinesis)
Magic Gems: 5
Pets: Fang, a tough dog (Fighting: 5, three boxes)

Coraline's friend, the Princess Snips came along, too.

Princess Snips
Magic: 1, Sneaking: 3, Fighting: 5
Stuff: Magic bow and arrows (make two Fighting rolls instead of one)

Coraline defeated a crocodile, used a gill potion to swim underwater and gain entrance to the goblin caves, threw a spider web on their watch-frog, went invisible to sneak into The Master's throne room, disguised herself as The Master (who is a ghost) with her magic, tricked a goblin into giving her the key to the treasure room, tricked the guardian brain monster (a grell figure) and found some more magic gems and a book with a one-time spell that makes ghosts disappear forever. She then had a climactic battle with The Master in which both Fang and Princess Snips took hits before she could cast the anti-ghost spell.

She returned the stolen treasure to the poor villagers and not only returned the reward to them but gave some of her own coins to them when she found out they were poor. The king gave her six gold coins (worth 50 pennies each) as a reward and she gave one to the Princess.

She's ready to play "Level Two" as she calls it.

I've run a 4E campaign now since all the way back when the line started.

While it was good for learning the system, and to a degree learning your class, there's a broad agreement in my group that low levels are still kind of dull.
If you're not learning the system, then having 1 daily, 1 encounter and maybe 1 utility simply sucks.

From my observation here, my group are not the only people who feel this way.

One could simply (and until now that was the idea I was entertaining) let characters start at higher levels, to let them have a few more toys to play with (somewhere between 5 and 7 seems to be popular with my players when discussing this).

However, for some games I'd really like the party starting out from scratch and making themselves a name against goblins and kobolds (or, fingers crossed, something else for low levels by then), but I also don't want them bored.

So how about starting characters out fully loaded? A level 1 character has 3 level 1 encounter powers and 3 level 1 daily powers. Instead of getting a new encounter power at level 3, he gets to "trade up" one of his level 1 powers for free, just like he would be trading up once he hits 13+
Of course, low level PCs WOULD be more competent this way, which leads to throwing harder encounters at them, which leads to the upper end of heroic quicker. Win-win in my group.
The extra complexity in learning your class is really not a detriment as my group have the system well in hand and the only real effect of more powers would be added options, not (enough to be relevant) added complexity. But I would only recommend the above for groups who HAD already played characters "the normal way" from 1 and up past level 7, since I think it really is axing out a lot of the "tutorial" nature of the steady power growth at lower levels.

The above could be done with 4 and 4 as well, of course. However I don't think it's necessary as 3 of each is plenty to play around with. Also it keeps your Paragon Path "intact" as a really big bump in power over 10 levels (not saying it would be insignifigant otherwise... but an extra of each power is really a lot of oomph).

So, rpg.net am I possibly onto something here? Would you use it in the game you run? Would you enjoy it in the game you play?
