Who Runs the Forums?
The forums are ultimately overseen by a group of volunteer moderators who you can recognize by their stylish black-circle avatars and the word "Moderator" or "Administrator" as their title.

The moderators are the ultimate authority for any decisions made about the forums, including suspensions and bannings, because they know the forums better than anyone else. Skotos doesn't intervene in this sort of decision because we have moderators that we trust and respect.

What are the Rules for Using the RPGnet Forums?
Our moderators keep a list of the current guidelines well organized in this forum thread.

What's Up with Search in the Forums?
The RPGnet Forums are huge--one of the 100 or so largest on the Internet. As is the case with other large forums, running search ourselves is technically unfeasible. Doing a search requires touching upon the 7 million plus posts on the board, and this unfortunately causes the forums to lock up. When we turned off search in 2005 or so it was causing everything to lock up for a few minutes whenever anyone did a search.

(To make search workable ourselves would require considerable programming on our side, plus much better hardware and/or additional servers, none of which is feasible for RPGnet at this time.)

We now use a third-party plugin called BoardTracker. They remotely maintain search records for all our public forums. This does not include Tangency or other private forums. Sometimes BoardTracker works, and sometimes it doesn't, and it's something we don't have control over. Please feel free to drop BoardTracker a line if the search plugin isn't working.

Google also does a fairly good job of keeping search records of our website. If you put 'site:forum.rpg.net' into a Google search, it'll only show you results from this site.

Why Isn't HTML Available?
Unfortunately, open HTML is a security risk. Bad people could try and use it to force you to download bad things. We kept it open for many years, but ultimately decided that it constituted too much of a risk to our readers. Fortunately, you can use bbcode for much of the same functionality.

Why Can't I See Tangency?
The mythical "Tangency Forum" is only available to registered forum users. If you want to access it, please create a forum account and make sure that you're logged in.

What Are those Funny Blue Links?
They're contentlinks, which are third-party advertisements which help to keep RPGnet running. They should provide links to topics that may be of interest. We're currently testing them out.

If you don't want to see them you have three options:

1.) Get an RPGnet membership and then either set "no ads" or "no tower ads". We suggest the latter since that only screens out the more intrusive ads like links and towers.

2.) Click on the "?" at the top left of any ad, then you'll be brought to a page where you can turn them off; just scroll down to find the link to do so.

3.) It looks like they don't currently work in Firefox, which is generally a superior browser in any case. So, upgrade.
