Dark City

Just watched this movie. Amazing. I'm kinda supprised that it doesn't get mentioned more. Especially since in places it seems like the Matrix movies cribed whole scenes from it.

It's just an unbelievable movie, with unbelievably good music.

Tuning!

Great movie.

Also, it's interesting to hear in the director commentary that the spoiler monologue at the beginning was forced on them by the studio, who thought the movie was too confusing. Poxy studio.

+ Great commentary by Ebert which I didint get to finish hearing before I gave it back but it's one of my alltime favorites which I've watched tons of times with different groups of friends. My ONLY gripe is the ending... its like "you know you dont have that much of a budget, you know you entire movie is flawless... we will forgive you for not trying to use major special effects for the finale".

There's been a few old threads about Dark City before.

Still, it is one of the great underrated movies of all time. And man, seeing Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly AND William Hurt in the same movie? Priceless.

The Matrix cribbed some of the props and backgrounds for the sets too.

So all those people that ask what's going on every two seconds during movies caused that monologue to be born?

Damnit.

I still need to finally buy this.

It's a great movie.

It has just been out on DVD for quite a while. It's not new so it isn't on people's minds as much as some other stuff.

That's why when grant morrison claimed they stole the matrix from him I laughed for weeks.

"Dude, the matrix is a mix of a dozen different genre works like ghost in the shell, dark city, blade and so on... just like everything you do!".

Maybe if all those people are stamped out now, we can keep them from blighting the movies of the future.
