Re: [RPG]: Duty and Honour, reviewed by kaiserjez (3/5)
Thanks for the review Jez. I appreciate the enthusiasm and the candor.
re: magic - I've been reluctant to dip my toe into this because it does drift away from the rationale of the game somewhat. However, if I were to do it, it would be pretty simple to engineer.
- Spells are like weapons, so they have a fixed card value (ie. 'Fireball - 5 cards' etc)
- Add an Arcana skill to the skill list
- Maybe add a 'Esoteric' social background as well
- Add in a 'Fae Born' nationality and/or a 'Pagan' religion?
- Allow people to have Personality Reputations with Infernals, Fae Princesses etc
- Allow people to have Institutional Reputations with Secret Societies, The Court of the Faerie Queen etc
- Come up with a slack handful of new talents using the 1pt=+1 rule.
re: probabilities - the game is tuned so that the heroes definitely have an edge with regard to successes, but failures can have a very hard impact when they happen. I really like the idea that you have about the Joker variant and I may well run with it and write it up as an optional variant for the next Almanac, giving credit where credit's due obviously!
Thanks for the comments about the game and I hope you all have fun with it.
Neil
