As a side note, I have to say that 4E is my favorite flavor.
Not because of it's mmo-like qualities, which it certainly has, and an aspect I do not like.
I could say its because there is more class balance: fighters aren't dull to play, 1st level wizards don't suck, 20th level wizards don't completely outshine anyone else.
I could say its because a cleric is no longer utterly necessary.
The reason I like it best?
Because its so freakin easy to run combats.
I run my games, currently, online, using virtual tabletop software. Its not preferred for me: I'd rather run face to face games, but I just don't have a local group currently, so the choice simply isn't there.
And as such, combats with other versions of D&D, and most other game systems with a few exceptions, are just very, very lengthy and dull.
4E... the combats go faster, are easier to run, and are actually (for me) much more exciting than the other versions, much smoother and more streamlined.
It was a very pleasant change.
So yes, 4e does have its weaknesses, but its convenience is what sold me most on it. And as for the "roleplaying" aspect, I don't really need rules for that; characters interact with npcs and the story... thats roleplaying, no rules required.
