I guess it depends on how much people are willing to go through for their causes. Are they donating money to the red cross, or are they volunteering to go into the field somewhere in the Middle East or Aftica. Are they attending protests and rallys for the environment and then going home, or are they harassing whaling ships at sea and protesting at drilling platforms. I sort of see unaligned as people who even though they may have a cause they believe in, they aren't willing to venture too far out of their normal, comfortable life for that cause. They may donate time and money to that cause, but they aren't going to risk their family or life for it. This is how I interprets the whole "most people in real life are unaligned" thing. People may care about some cause, but they mostly just want to get on with their normal, everyday life.
