I think you're confusing "nosy and opinionated" with "principled and determined".

Try being mistaken for some other guy by a 'roid-raging, 6'4" weightlifter in front of about sixty eyewitnesses and see how many crusaders run in to save you, instead of standing there yelling "Oh My God!" or "Hey! Get off him!".

The answer? Two. Now try filing criminal charges and see how many of the eyewitnesses take a day off from work to testify against the guy who gave you brain damage. The answer? One.

Most people are decent enough, as long as they don't have to actually make any actual sacrifices or take any actual risks to help people out. I call that "unaligned".
