When I first saw the map, I had a similar problem - it seemed really tiny. Then I found out the scale.

The scale for the map (this is from the Exalted Errata, found at http://www.white-wolf.com/exaltedweb/Downloads/ExaltedErrata.pdf) is 1:50,688,000 or 1 inch to about 800 miles. Which makes the Blessed Isle about the size of Europe.
