Converted from Phorums BB System
The really sad thing is that even though Tolkein's works have been totally desanguinated of wonder by now, new people keep comming of age and reading them... and apparently ENJOYING them. The nerve! What I want to know is why hasn't someone given these fanboys-in-the-making the smackdown the first time they picked up a copy of The Hobbit and told them, "Hey! Don't read that drivel! It's just not cool anymore."
The real irony is that you can only get away with making fun of conventions as long as someone knows about the convention you're making fun of. As soon as people start to forget about particular game, book, or other form of entertainment you're making fun of, then the humor based on it just becomes obscure.
