"Your "how gamist is that?" was in reference to the dice pools"
Yes, my excuses. While addressing several threads I may have lost the line of thought.
True, I say that. What I meant is that enjoying to use big dice pools for dice pool size sake is gamist.
"As long as it's enjoyable, who cares if it meets some arbitrary definition of "true roleplaying"? I thought this stuff was supposed to be *fun*."
Certainly if I was reviewing Exalted as a society game. I was not. I was reviewing it as a role playing game. That was the focus of the review. If something in the system distracts from role playing, I say it does not work from a role playing point of view. It may work from other points of view, of course, but those are not under discussion.
Let me give you an example: Are most logical puzzles used in role playing games good or bad? Depends on the point of view. Someone that enjoys logical puzzles may consider that the ones found in rpgs are very basic and uninteristing. A role player may consider that they are good because they fulfil their role within a role playing context. Who is right? Both, each one on his particular point of view.
"Exalted *does*, in fact, provide these things, in spades. They're there - you missed them"
I didn't. Of course, that's my opinion. But this would be a long discussion that would require the comparision of Exalted with other games and fictional settings.
