I think it was an intent of WW's designers to provide no linear, clearly outlined story for the part of the Exalted "mission" or whatever you can call it. Even taking into account sourcebooks with deatailed Characters, their motivations and world views, there are no coherent goals the newly reborn Solars are trying to achieve.
Some are looking for informations like remains of the First Age, prophecies, arcane books to further understand their mission; others just abuse their newly-found powers to personal ends; while some are pawns to various political or mythical forces, sometimes even without knowing it themselves.

All in all, Solars are outlined as beings ripped from their status quo and trying to find their own ways in a world that doesn't particulary like them. So it's up to the players and the GM to find an explanation for what's up with their whole existence.
And, personally, I have to admit that I really like that kind of uncertainity concerning the "purpose" of character existence.
