vs. Tome of Horrors

First, I'd like to thank you for an informative review.

Now I have a question directed to the reviewer or anyone else who has used "The Fiend Folio": How does it stack up to Necromancer Games' "Tome of Horrors?"

I know that on the surface, ToH appears to have MANY more monsters than FF (more than 100) at a comparable cover price. However, the ToH illustrations are b&w and lack the luster of WotC art.

A further consideration is that everything in ToH is listed as Open Gaming Content, which makes it a valuable resource to those of us who write modules with publication in mind. Conversely, the FF is not OGL compliant, meaning that 3rd party publishers cannot use them in their products. Seeing that WotC publishes few modules nowadays, that means that it is unlikely that any of these creatures will ever be found in print by any of the 3rd party publishers, who are the only folks currently writing modules. Therefore, that slashes my opinion at the get-go.

I have ToH and like it very much. I've noticed that as much as 25% of the FF's listings have been yanked from the ToH and republished--despite an arrangement between WotC and Necromancer stating that such duplication would not occur.

Considering all this, would it still behoove me to look at purchasing "The Fiend Folio?"

Thanks,
Ryan
