There's a thread in the main forum about what happened.

I started my game at level 6. After two episodes I promoted them to level 7 and after 2 more they are now level 8.

It is quite a pulpy modern game but only one character ever took enough damage to have to make the save. It happened twice. But as the Gun Bunny he had +7 on his save and made it.

However he did lose 52 San in one go and is now down to 2.

HPs are not really the issue in CoC, even pulpy games. I wouldn't worry about them.
