Converted from Phorums BB System
I ran a brief Buffy campaign and it went really well until the season finale.
First off, I'm a Buffy fan. I've watched almost the entire series and was an avid Buffy-ite long before the RPG came out. I like the RPG and I think that the Drama Points and Unisystem work pretty well for it, but I ran into a couple of issues with the Unisystem that I would like to point out here.
In the infamous season finale, combat hit a real speed bump. Everything was going real wham-bang in the other sessions, but then the players started showing more and more interest in the various manuevers that they could attempt.
The manuevers slowed things down a lot. They are fairly neat, but involved a lot of book opening and number crunching. There was also situations where players began min-maxing the manuevers themselves. Rather than doing a kick or punch or throw, the players began to go for decapitation, break neck and spin kick exclusively. I could not find any rules in the game itself to discourage this but started imposing a cumulative -1 much like one would incur for casting the same spell over and over.
Overall, the game was a lot of fun. The Drama Points and the lighter version of the Unisystem worked out really well for the material, but combat (for me) really broke down over the manuevers. It's a minor gripe, but I feel a valid one. I just wanted to share it and see if others had encountered the same problems as I did.
