Incidentally, it was my understanding that Magic Addiction wasn't included in the main rulebook because it didn't fall within Seasons 1-5.

That would be correct. Magical Addiction didn't appear until Season 6. However, I believe that if it had appeared earlier, it would not have been included in the core rulebook, since I'm fairly certain they want to present it as an optional rule, and they didn't really feature much in the way of optional rules in the core rules
