That's another very good review of RDD : I'll need lots of efforts to write mine (about the recent English version).
As a French player I'll try to spice it with actual play impressions, and talk a little bit about the many supplements (http://www.roliste.com/jeu.jsp?id=1701&ft=1 for an incomplete list).

Note : you're reviewing the third printing of the second edition.
Here are the editions :
- first edition (2 books, 1 screen)
- second edition 1st print (box, 3 books, 1 screen)
- second ed 2nd print (perfect bound)
- oniros 1st printing (simplified version of the rules)
- second ed 3rd printing (hardback)
- oniros 2nd printing (like the older one, but with a new cover)
- ourobouros (english translation, pdf versions of the 3 books, based on 2nd ed with a few elements from 1st edition)

My favourite version of the rules is Oniros (except many races and monsters are missing), but 2nd ed is clean too.

A note about campaigns :
As an old RdD player, I must say that the game is more interesting (to me) in one-shots (or short campaigns) than long campaigns, because the setting is so "unstable" (you're always swapping universes).
Multisim, when it was still the publisher, tried to remedy this with the "Unirêve" boxed set : a description of a inter-dream empire. Nice try, but not developped enough IMHO ...
