I do think leaving that sort of thing out of the ELH more or less entirely was a mistake, though. Literally every other version of the game had included the path of the ruler as a major choice when characters reached that level. Hell, the OD&D boxed sets were predicated around the notion that characters would start on that stuff at a pretty low level, relatively speaking (since they could go up to level 36 as mortals).
I found the utter lack of support for rulership or pursuing immortality in the ELH rather baffling. (And yes, I know there's a token nod to the latter in the new Dieties and Demigods, but considering that TSR once had a whole series of well-received products about the idea, it seems strange to limit the idea to just what was in that book.)
