On a book by book basis, sure, this is an appropriate logic, assuming you do not take other people into account at all (certainly this is what mainstream economists would argue you should do, though people don't seem to think that way IRL). Even thinking entirely selfishly, if you believe that the small company will innovate in ways that bigger ones won't (and evidence suggests this is true) you may value that innovation and thus be willing to pay more to keep them in business, in effect paying an "innovation premium."

So the question is: Are the ideas in SW worth it? I too admit to being a bit put off by the price of the book initially. Upon reading it, I revised my opinion. YMMV.
