it's certainly worth having, though my feeling is that there's almost too much stuff in there. it adds value, intrigue and a crapload of exceptions to the basic game and you might even find it confusing.

of course i only say this beccause i started out buying the German editions, where each expansible variant was published separately, and i feel all bitter about the significant saving American players get by being able to buy the gatherum. it might still be worth your while to buy the expansion set with a buddy and divvy up the variants between yourselves. after all, somebody who likes the concepts of Wizards & Dragons is not necessarily going to be blown off his feet by Technology & Progress.
