After my playtest last night (Doom basically, though not "marines vs. zombies" that's on the net), maneuvers make a HUGE difference, as does making sure to use terrain, team up appropriately, and so forth. Battles are DEFINITELY NOT wars of attrition, but require careful tactics. It might well not be to your advantage to attack each round, for instance.

The one thing I think I'll golden rule is multiple wounds for critters. Just raising Toughness to the wazoo makes for a truly frustrating fight and IMO over-emphasized the luck factor. I don't mind a *bit* of bookkeeping.
