Hi PMMJ,
I like to distinguish between players and characters very carefully. Talking about players, in the game Ralph is describing, every player was 100% involved in every scene. I assert that with no qualification whatever. However, not every player-character was present in every scene. This may be hard for some people to cope with, but in Sorcerer, no one "waits for their turn." Playing one's character's dialogue and actions is only part of participating.
Also, every character was a protagonist, which is to say, not guest stars or supporting characters. Everyone made crucial decisions that not only represented turning points in their characters' lives, but also changed the whole setting, as well as affected everyone else.
As for "non-sorcerer player-characters," your question is interesting, because the rules don't force a distinction like a character class. All player-characters have a Lore score; whether they practice sorcery directly is up to the player. One guy might have a Lore score of 4 or 5 (quite high), but no Bound demons; another might have the minimum of 1 and a whole bunch of Bound demons. These could switch during the course of play, when the first guy decides to do a bunch of rituals and the second decides to Banish or kill all the demons, or whatever.
Best,
Ron
