**sigh** CRPGs...

Converted from Phorums BB System
For years I watched others play crpgs and I gleefully stayed away from them. There was nothing in most of them other than near-endless combat and logic puzzles that made no game-sense (Fourth Wall, anyone?).
Then came Baldur's Gate II.
Here, finally, was a story I could sink my fangs into, great npc interaction, a replayable game, villains worth hating, and all the rest. No, it wasn't as spontaneous as pen & paper, but it was pretty damn good.
So I was really looking forward to NWN.
My conclusion?
Great engine for the game, lame story, pathetic npc interaction, and very little else to recommend it. SoU adds more bells 'n' whistles, but once again the story is dull, and while the npc interaction is better, it is still not the phenomenal.
I have looked at the downloadable adventures available at bioware (and affiliated sites), but none of them has turned my socks blue.
I think there is great potential with this game engine. Now will SOMEBODY write a decent story and get back to the BGII level of npc interaction?
Until then, all you have is unfulfilled potential.
