Converted from Phorums BB System
Actually there *is* a German cult classic, which probably has no influence on the game ... but who knows?
"Raumpatrouille" (Space Patrol) was a seven parts b/w series in the 60s. It featured the "Raumschiff Orion" (Spaceship Orion) with an international crew of intrepid space heroes saving the solar system and mankind almost every episode. The show has a huge fanbase and is loved for great plots, cool acting and goofy but very entertaining special effects (certainly on par with classic Star Trek): Everyone remembers the infamous flat iron used as part of the control system, a space port on the bottom of the sea, a smashing soundtrack, the hilarious dancing scenes in the Starlight casino - and, of course, the aliens, called the - FROGS! (*hinthint*) And as it happens to be, there's a movie coming as a "producer's cut", created from all seven episodes, cut, reassembled and linked with a fictional news show.
One of the bigger fanpages is

Not very useful for you, I admit, beeing all German, but by randomly following some links you may find cool pics.
On this subpage you will find some audio clips, including the famous intro and a version of the soundtrack (look in the center and right column):

Here's the official link to the movie page, you will instantly note the flat iron prop:

And as a sweet bonus, here's the page where you can find the official trailer - in English! (Though I don't know if the movie will be really shown anywhere outside Germany).

More fun than you can shake a ray gun at!
Cheers,
