Nitpicking surely, but so were you. As I understand the english usage, the latin word sic (meaning roughly "his") is used to emphasize that the point of text is indeed from the quoted party, unchanged. It's most commonly used with language-related problems, as you noted. Nothing stops from using it to simply emphasize that the original indeed said that. So I'd take this to mean that the reviewer sees something funny in expanded introductions?
