RE: Campy Splatterpunk For the Masses

Converted from Phorums BB System

In the end, the people who make these movies give people what they want. Technically speaking, they DID end both films (hell, Jason ended twice, IIRC). There was Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare and Jason goes to Hell: The Final Friday. But people wanted more, so they gave it to them.

The trick to Splatter films is to not look at them as "cinema", per say. It's better to look at them in a more "comic book" light. Whenever someone stops the villain, either that villain will come back or a copycat will come in and take up his mantle. That's just how it is, imho.

And there is nothing wrong with that. People want to see these movies, and so they're made. Freddy comes back and kills more teenagers.

And as for "stereotypical teens", well... would you want to see someone who is so realistically portrayed that they remind you of your friends be slaughtered on screen by monsters of pure evil? I wouldn't. I like to see the drunken assholes and overbearing sex fiends that made my teen years more "interesting" than I liked being slaughtered in facinating and somewhat humorous ways.

In the end, Slasher flix are morality tales. Those that die are usually those that are immoral and/or uncaring. This rule doesn't extend to everyone (several victims in NoES IV come to mind), but it is the general state of things (I had some time to contemplate this while waiting for my ride after seeing Freddy vs Jason... sometimes I think too damn much ).

I hope that they keep making these crossover films, personally. F vs J was one of the coolest flicks I've seen in a while, and if they can do just as good, if not better, in a sequel... well, more power to them!

All in all, this is all just my opinion. I could be wrong.
