Converted from Phorums BB System

Yeah well, I am a star wars fan and I think that Qui Gon was the best Jedi ever.

That aside, I could have done with out young Anakin's tired lines, but am willing to overlook the lack of experience of a child actor. The story, to me anyway, was a much anticipated continuation (or beginning) that had alot more than just cheesy stereotypes in play and out for money. Granted there were some stereotypes (Darth Maul was the biggest one I can think of in SW-E1:tPM, I'm a bad guy, I'm scary, I can fight well, I'm angry... but IIRC there was a point that he mentioned something about revenge and the Sith thing hadnt really been explored/exploited up until that scene, NOT to mention he paced like a caged tiger to contrast Qui Gon's meditation while waiting for the energy barrier and I thought that was subtext). And lest I forget, yes the franchise that is Star Wars IS very very greedy. I don't deny that and it makes me sad.

NoES and Friday the 13th just always seemed less planned out and catered to the lowest common denominator plot wise. This isn't bad, but I thought they could have used this to either a more solid comedic effect and/or focused more on the villains internal struggles (which almost happened with Jason but I'm not fooling myself, it was just a look).

As a rule I don't really like stereotypes in my horror for the same reason you say you do. And in actuality it might make me disturbed to see people that I can identify with and sympathize for get slaughtered. Hell, I think that would be a major draw for me because I like horror to be scary and explore the human dark side.

It is all a matter of personal taste, and I readily cede that point, but I think the execution left something to be desired. And the winking Freddie just really made me roll my eyes. If this is so viable as a new or even competive revitalized franchise, why not just make new Nightmare on Elm Street Movies or Friday the 13th Part Thirty (j/k, whatever they are up to, you get my meaning). This movie did not revitalize the franchise enough, in my mind, to justify not giving some well needed closure that granted appeared in earlier independent films (that is NoES and Ft13th respectively).

In fact when I pick up even a comic book that has a deathmatch theme, I want somebody to DIE. One of the combatants that is not just stupid bystanders (yawn). I wanted a movie about Freddie either showing Jason who's really bad, or Jason proving -once and for all- that Freddie was a pretender. This really didn't happen. And thus I was disappointed. I'm sure your mileage may vary.
