I think it could be argued that in HH, hunters are often 'chosen' to hunt the supernatural (by circumstances rather than an overt outside agency, but still).
The major (and decided off-putting) difference I remember is that after being advertised as a game about 'regular people' who are forced to deal with the supernatural, H:tR turned out to be about a bunch of 'Imbued' that get assigned to arbitrary 'Creeds' and exercise sets of outre super powers called 'Edges'.

Sorry. In this case, though, I think it really deserves to be derided. I'm one of those who thinks that the Edges are disjointed, silly, and -- worst of all -- a COMPLETE BETRAYAL of what was supposed to be the basic premise of the game.
YMMV, of course.
