MOO3 was an excellent game that really gave you the sense of managing a huge empire, at the cost of a enoughmously steep learning curve (or the cmoon term learning cliff).

Galactic Civilizations turns the other direction, instead of looking to give the user an empire with huge amount of things going on, it streamlines to gameplay to promote micromanagement.

Both are excellent games, and many would say that Galactic Civilizations is the game MOO3 should have been. I think they're both excellent games at two different extremes.
