I had never played a RPG before then, and it actually got me into the hobby quite nicely. I then went on to play ShadowRun, Star Wars (WEG of course), and some White Wolf. All that time, I really wanted a good hack & slash. I'm planning on running a campaign with an opportunity for nearly endless hack & slash (a collapsed city whose living and dead are controlled by evil forces) and I might actually use the HeroQuest board for the random dungeons, and possibly just come up with the floorplan on the fly. Any experienced gamer would look at HeroQuest with a certain degree of disdain, so I don't blame you for insulting it, but for the record it was very successful in turning me into a RPG nut.
