Converted from Phorums BB System
OK, long metaphor, but you see my point? "UA" takes "Buffy" and stretches the rationalization concept to its absolute limits until it becomes absurd. The Shadow-Chasers campaign hooks in the d20 Modern book are much better to emulate Buffy (as has been mentioned earlier).
I mentioned this in the forums for the last review of UA, but I don't think that the UA campaign model has anything to do with Buffy or Angel. Okay, maybe a little...
UA is really more like Men in Black, imo.
In the former setting, the supernatural is generally someting that gets in the way of you living a normal life and hangin' at the Bronze. In the latter, the "paranormal" is more something that, once you've realized the full truth of it, can be a powerful tool. E.g., Buffy would probably love to not ever have been chosen as the Slayer. Will Smith, otoh, probably wouldn't trade being an agent for anything.
But that's just me.
