No, no, no. That's not the idea at all. The overwhelming popularity of D&D is cited only to dispute the notion that some of its more obscure competitors are more representative of the state of fantasy gaming today. Fact is, for the vast majority of RPGers, the state of "modern" fantasy gaming is little different than the state of the genre in the late 1970s. In other words: The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Whether D&D is a good game or not, well, I'm not gonna speculate.
