Matching games to lifestyles and personalities

Converted from Phorums BB System
I mentioned this in another thread, but it has been so interesting watching Baron avoiding an all out flame war with Joe that I have to comment on this one.
My take, well *a* take, on this is that systems in general are chosen by a GM to fit their current lifestyle or even personality, more than any consideration of how well the system "fits" a genre or setting.
Players have preferences for more crunch or less crunch, and their time committment is far less than the typical GM so they don't make system choices based on lifestyle so much as what's fun to play, but even that is different than 'what fits the setting."
Meanwhile, everyone argues about the merits of a system based on how complete it is or how well it fits the genre, or the things they can do with it when in fact, it may be the case that none of us really make our own decisions based on those factors at all.
