The prerequisite is the ability to cast arcane spells. That also applies to sorcs and bards. My group consists of 2 bards, 1 wizard and a barbarian/sorcerer who got the scholarschip caue he is _fast_ and they can need him for the spellflag team...
So there can be diversity (if your GM is as generous as ours...).
