I, too, cringe at current prices. However, an RPG game rulebook that may have cost $10 in the early 80's now run $20-$50. A mass market book that would have cost $0.95 from the same time period now runs $5.99 on average. Board games that were $15-$20 now range from $35-$120. If you play a miniatures game like Warhammer40K you are looking at hundreds to thousands of dollars for materials. It's an expensive hobby, but if the publishers cannot profit, they will cease to exist. A smaller publisher does not generally have the resources to make the large publication runs that you might see from the larger companies. Smaller runs equate to larger per copy printing prices.
