It looks like you made a mistake that is fairly common with the wording in Savage Worlds. Using an unskilled attempt is your roll minus two. Being a Wild card gives you an additional D6 to roll along with the D4, but you still subtract two from your final, no matter what die you take. That means you need a 6 for a base success, either rolled on the D6, or acing the D4, and rolling 2. This makes unskilled attempts by wild cards much less likely.
