Although Starfarers is very expensive, I don't feel that I wasted my money. Personally, I thought it a nice change from the usual vague shaped wooden pieces that come in most German boardgames.

Starfarers has enough variations to keep those of us who have played Settlers to death excited to play this game. At the same time the core idea is left intact. The biggest plus was the encounter mechanic which reminded me of those "choose your adventure" books. The thing I didn't like about Starfarers was the fixed board. I like the idea of the board always changing with each game.
