Admittedly this doesn't make it much less tricky, but you could try printing on paper & then using a spray adhesive to glue the paper to the cardstock. Your should be able to fins the spray adhesive at an art supply store. The manufacturer of the product I picked up is 3M.

Not sure if a "fixer" spray is waterproof, but you could ask at the art supply store.
