Well, you'll notice I didn't pan the game - I have it a 4 for content and a 2 for style. Yes, if the editing, binding, etc. had been just a little worse I would have wasted my money as it would have been unusable.
What are the games coming out today that it should be favorably comparing to style-wise? Recently, I've bought
o A mess of WotC products (inc. d20 Modern)
o Spycraft & supplements
o Slaine from Mongoose
o Judge Dredd from Mongoose
o Traveller20
o Feng Shui supplements
o Buffy: tVS
o Weird War II supplements (PEG)
o Rune
o Little Fears
o Mutants & Masterminds & supplements
Style-wise, the only one of these that might merit a "2" is Traveller20 (similarly horrid editing). It doesn't fall apart upon use, however, and its problems are mostly content related and not purely editing related.
If you are comparing Silhouette CORE to PDF products or "glut" d20 adventures, its style might compare to the average. But this is a core rulebook from a respected company. Its competition is Spycraft, d20 Modern, Buffy, Slaine, etc. It does not compare favorably to its competition.
Now, I choose to include most of the editing and such in Style - perhaps others consider that Content; and if you just flip the pages of Silhouette CORE its "prettiness" is indeed a 3-3.5 easily. Its exterior and interior are prettier/classier than Generic d20 Adventure #3. But the binding, editing, and organization severely hamper the use of an otherwise quite enjoyable product.
