Converted from Phorums BB System
That's interesting that the rules create that effect. I almost always did combat (in D&D) in a fashion like Final Fantasy. It was sort of a gang face off, with the occasional repositioning of the thief. Of course any deficiency like that is easy to avoid if you simply chose to do things on the fly instead of insisting on following the rules. I always felt free to bend the rules how I saw fit, and for example when I was playing D&D on the bus and dice rolling was inconvenient we would just verbally act out the combat sequences and it was actually even more fun at times than using the combat system. It didn't work without rules though - that would degenerate into a free for all.
Anyway, it's just interesting that different rules seem to promote different mindsets in some players.
