Actually at that point Communism is just as moral as Capitalism -- "the greatest good for the greatest number". However Communism was more tied to moral endeavours than Capitialism ever was, which makes it a murkier economic system.
Look, I am not trying to say Capitialism is evil, but neither am I trying to say it is noble. It is an economic model. As Smith presents it, thus its purest form, it has absolutely nothing to do with morality. Only writers after the fact, well after the fact, have attached any moral weight to it, and most of them have political rather than economic axes to grind.
Don't confuse economics with moral philosphy -- it will get you in trouble every time.
