Tough call. The games are very different. If you like Risk and want to step up to a new wargame of slightly more complexity I might suggest Axis & Allies instead. The new revised edition just put out this year is quite good, and some of the concepts are similar (world domination, dice based combat, with little else to interfere).

AGOT is a different beast. No dice at all! This is why I hate Risk (its all about dice) and love AGOT. The game revolves around your position, strategy, tactics, and influence. It makes for a better game by far.

Its not too hard to pickup either once you get over some of the concepts that may appear to be so odd at first.

So in short, I recomend picking it up. If you're looking for a wargame that is easy to get into but has alot of depth and gameplay to it, this might be the one. I love this game!
