I'm convinced that people who make fun of RM's tables have either never actually played RM, or they only played it maybe once, with a bunch of newbies. Of course, thinking about tables, it's easy to imagine that they would slow down game play. But they don't, really, when you get the hang of it.
I genuinely believe that RM is less rules-intensive than d20. Most people think of it as being more rules-intensive because of tables used in combat. The interesting thing here is that the merits of a system are being judged solely on the basis of how it resolves combat! Isn't there more to role-playing games that fighting, anyway?
