Nerdvana is correct. The Gamma World line is stated as being designed to work with either the SRD, the Modern SRD, Dungeons and Dragons, or D20 Modern.
How important this point is, depends on what you plan on using the book for.
(1). To play D20 Gamma World, aside from this book and the GWPHB, I'd recommend getting D20 Modern.
(2). If you're planning on using D20 Gamma World with Dungeons and Dragons, I'd recommend keeping your copy of the Psionics Handbook handy. If you don't have the PsiHB, don't rush right out and buy it right now, though; the Expanded PsiHB will be out soon. Just print out the Psionics portion of the 'ancient/fantasy' SRD for now.
(3). If you're plugging D20 Gamma World monsters into a different d20 game with a different core rulebook, and you have none of the above-mentioned books, you might need to print out the psionics portion of the Modern SRD, and maybe even the Magic section of the Modern SRD for those couple of pesky critters using spells as mutations.
Understand, this is a fairly minor blemish in what is, IMHO, a great product. As a buyer, though, be advised that it seems to many like the GW line just seems to run more smoothly with D20 Modern.

No, Gamma World d20 (as stated on the bottom of the cover of the misnamed "Player's Handbook" (dising only the name)) is "A Campaign Setting for d20 Roleplaying" and was made for use with d20 Modern (so it or its SRD are "required") although it has the option of using D&D 3.5e as well in it.
