I think you are all missing the point in this day of all things D20 and OGL.
It is nice to have different systems and mechanics; I have always found that the different systems generate a different feel during play, and are all the more enjoyable for the variety.
I like the Chaosium system for example, and the fact that I can pick up any one of their games and "know" the rules.
However, I also enjoy the thrill of learning and playing a new system.
D% have always been my favourite systems; you get a much greater/finer result on a range of 1-100, than you do on 1-20. Modifiers on 1-100 can be in 1's (i.e. 1%), but a +/-1 mod in D20 is 5%, not very subtle.
Results of skill rolls can be interpreted more finely on d%, with partial sucesses and failures, if the result is just 1 or 2% off the required target etc.
Having said that, I do enjoy the Palladium FRPG, and it uses the D20!

This attitude that everything should be D20, is like saying everyone should drive a 1 litre VW polo (or something similar), we all like different things. It would be a very boring world if all things conformed to one specification/design.
