I have played this is 2 1/2 hours with 4 players including a 10 and a 14 year boy. Some rules to speed play:

- discard event cards
- start with 60 mill
- move 12 and 16 instead of 9 and 12
- start with 5 cards, discard 2

To speed play with any rules:
1. Draw new demand cards after you finish your turn if you will be delivering a load or trading all your cards on your NEXT turn; this gives you more time to plan stategy; just be sure that cards are drawn in proper order and that no one is allowed to change their move based on the "advance knowledge"
2. If you are on a long trip on your own railroad, let other players move your piece while you get drinks or snacks for other players or go to bathroom, etc.
