HeroQuest has opened up the rest of Glorantha (well, primarily Genertela so far), always known to exist to those within the core community, always sketched in to some extent. And with this opening came the medieval west, the oriental east, the Lunar Empire isn't Roman anymore, it's all sorts, we've got Egypto-Incans down south. The old identity has been lost amongst the expansion. There's virtualy every RPG fantasy setting in there now, albeit all with the usual Gloranthan twist.

Well, we actually knew about the rest of Genertela since Glorantha:Crucible of the Hero Wars, a RQ3 supplement, long before any HeroQuest supplement was published. And if I remember right, the knights in the West are mentioned in RQ2. I also fail to see how revealing more about Glorantha would make it lose its identity. The recent supplements, especially Dragon Pass and Imperial Lunar Handbook, do just the opposite, IMHO.
The analogues for the different cultures are just that - analogues. The West may be based on medieval Europe, but it still has a most definite Gloranthan feel to it.
Just my 5p...
